Learning About Polar Animals

The Tulsa Zoo did a great presentation last Friday at the Collinsville Library about Polar animals and how they survive in their cold environments. One of the docents even brought a live chinchilla - the kids thought it was pretty cute ;-)

They also had an experiment the kids could try that helped them learn how blubber keeps animals warm. They had 2 buckets filled with ice-cold water. One of the buckets had a layer of oil that represented blubber that they had to reach through. Naturally, the bucket that had the layer of blubber was not near as cold as the bucket that had no protection from the ice cold. That's my excuse for my "blubber" and I'm stickin' to it ;-)
