Wild About Stripes

Check out this bathroom I just painted for a friend of mine. Is it crazy or what?! My friend is a super hip/super cool mom and is really into zebra stripes and animal prints, in general, as you can tell ;-) She's probably the only person I know that could pull this look off in her house!

Show and Share Day

Our homeschool co-op had Show and Share Day yesterday. The kids took turns speaking on stage and were asked to share about their favorite book. Then they took questions from the audience about their book. Some even dressed the part or presented a craft they made that correlated with the book they read. It was great experience for the kids and it is helping them learn how to speak in front of an audience.

"M" shared how she loves to read Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. For info on where we got "M's" outfit, visit this previous post.

"A" spoke about her favorite book, Fancy Nancy. Some friends of our introduced us to Fancy Nancy several months ago and now we're hooked! We usually check her books out at the library and covet the Fancy Nancy items they have for sale at Target ;-)
As you can tell in the video below, "M" felt as though she needed to assist "A" in sharing about her book. That's a big sister for you but "A" told me afterwards she would have preferred to go it alone ;-) I was just thrilled they both wanted to get up on stage and share in front of people!

A Special Night

The girls and I finished reading a book called, "Heaven for Kids" by Randy Alcorn during our devotional time tonight. The last chapter of the book basically tells it's readers how to become a Christian. After we finished reading, both girls said they wanted to ask Jesus into their hearts. I reminded them they did that several years ago but they both said they were "younger" then and now they were old enough to really understand what they were doing.

I felt bad because Steve wasn't home to see it - but I couldn't exactly tell them, "No - sorry. This isn't a good time!" Without my prompting, they both got down on their knees and said their own individual prayers. "M" told Jesus she wanted him to be her Savior and she wants to get to know him more and more everyday. She went on to say a very sweet prayer asking God to forgive her of her sins and told Jesus she wants to be with him in heaven someday. "A's" prayers, on the other hand, have gotten rather lengthy lately ;-) After about 5 minutes of thanking God for the nice weather we had today, for her friends and family and toys, etc. she, too, asked Jesus into her heart. She ended her prayer with, "I love you Jesus so so so so so so so much!"

When they were finished praying, they said, "Now it's your turn, Mommy!" So I just said a little prayer that went something like this..."Thank you, Jesus, for placing "M" and "A" into our lives. They are such a blessing to us. I'm so glad they have made the decision to follow You and that they asked you to come live in their hearts. Please wrap your arms around them and assure them that you love them and will always be with them. I pray that they grow up to fear, love and respect You. And I also pray that they know that their parents love them so much. Let them know they can always come to us if they have any questions or concerns. Thank you for our sweet family. In Jesus name, Amen."

When I finished praying, to my surprise, both girls were crying and gave me a big tackle-me-to-the-floor hug. It was a special night ;-)

Kid U

Our church started a new program on Wednesday nights that turned out to be really fantastic! They called it "Kid U" (a.k.a., Kid University) and the kids got to choose a class that they wanted to take for 7 weeks. Their options were soccer, piano/keyboarding, outdoor adventure, art and flag football. We just completed the 7th week and the kids really had a blast! They made new friends, learned a new skill and were taught a Bible lesson, as well. Each night, the session ended with Large Group time where the kids all came together and sang praise songs and were taught a reinforcing Bible lesson from what they learned earlier that night. We take a break next week for Fall Break then start back the following week with a new 7-week session and 5 new classes to choose from. The girls can't wait!

"A" loved learning keyboarding basics from Miss Jessica

"M" had fun trying out soccer for the first time

Field Trip to the Gilcrease Museum

The girls and I went to the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa today and had a great time! They currently have a large exhibit featuring cowboys and cowgirls from the past. We spent a lot of time in their kid's area where they had fun western and Native American dress-up clothes to wear. Of course, the girls LOVE dress-up so it was hard to get them to leave that room. But their most favorite area of all was the Art Room. They were in heaven! They had about 6 tables set up with different art projects at each table - including painting, making things with clay and wire, coloring with markers, weaving, making paper collages, etc.

Unfortunately, it was pretty chilly today and we didn't get to explore the gardens outside - we'll have to save that for next time. We had so much fun and can't wait to go back again soon when we have more time!

Date Night with Mommy and Daddy

After "A" was born, Steve and I tried to make sure that we still spent special time alone with "M". Well, as the years have gone by, our schedules have become much busier and we have recently realized we don't really spend enough alone time with the girls. So we've decided once a month, we are going to have a "date night" where Steve and I take the girls out individually then we'll switch "dates" the next month and continue on a rotational basis.

So we started this last night and had a great time! Here's a picture of the girls getting ready for their dates. They raided my make-up drawer and put on their own make-up. Normally, I'm not a fan of little girls wearing make-up in public but this was a special night and they were having so much fun getting ready. They picked out their own outfits, did their own make-up, fixed their own hair and painted their own nails.

So Steve's date was "M" and "A" was my date. We let the girls choose where they wanted to go as long as it was in town because we didn't have enough time to drive to Tulsa. Steve and "M" decided to go to Cici's Pizza. After dinner, they went shopping and surprised "A" with a new Polly Pocket.

"A" and I went to El Tequilla. Unfortunately, I only have pics of our night out since I had the camera. As we walked into the restaurant, "A" said, "Mommy, we look sooo glamorous! Glamorous is a fancy word for beautiful!" (As Fancy Nancy likes to say!) After dinner, she wanted to go shopping at Claire's and Wal-Mart.

(Notice the pink dress-up shoes "A" is wearing! And yes, I let her go out like this in public! Needless to say, she got lots of grins!)

We had a fabulous time and am looking forward to switching dates next month. Maybe Steve and I can talk the girls into paying and taking us shopping ;-)
